Delegates of the International Union of Superiors General (UISG) gathered in Rome from September 21 – 27, 2019 for the General Assembly of Talitha Kum.   The 86 delegates from 48 countries, representing 52 Talitha Kum networks deliberated on the theme: TOGETHER AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING; WEAVING A WEB IN LOVE.

TALITHAKUM is the network of all the Consecrated Persons against human trafficking. We gathered to:

•    celebrate the 10th anniversary of Talitha Kum;
•    evaluate the work done together according to priorities set in 2016; and to
•    define the priorities for Talitha Kum International to support anti-trafficking efforts for the period of 2020-2025.

The Assembly was rich with many highlights.  In the Award Ceremony, ten Sisters were recognized for their outstanding contribution in the field of combating human trafficking. To the glory of GOD, I was one of the recipients of the award.

Another highlight was the audience with Pope Francis. During this audience, the Pope gave the following messages:

      The Pope expressed admiration for the impressive achievement of the initiative that began in 2009 and today includes 52 networks of women congregations active in 92 countries in the world.

      He expressed gratitude to the numerous congregations working in the “forefront” of the Church’s missionary action against the scourge of trafficking in persons.

      He urged more congregations and Church actors to join in this fight.

I conclude with the words of the Pope – “The work of raising awareness must begin at home, with ourselves, because only in this way will we be able to then make our communities aware, motivating them to commit themselves so that no human being may ever again be a victim of human trafficking”.
